HC Deb 13 June 1934 vol 290 c1676
6. Mr. SAVERY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the number of cadets who, during the last three years, have been compelled to withdraw from Dartmouth Naval College on account of defective vision?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

During the last three years, seven cadets have been required to withdraw from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, on account of defects of vision. Of these, one had been offered a transfer to the Engineering Branch and five to the Accountant Branch, but these transfers had been declined. The seventh was unfit for service in any branch.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Would those regulations have disqualified Lord Nelson, who I believe was defective in vision?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

He was not at Dartmouth.
