asked the Secretary for Mines the number of fatal and non-fatal accidents, separately, which have occurred at the Bedwas Colliery, Monmouthshire, during the first six months of this year; and the percentage of these fatal and notifiable accidents at, this colliery compared with the whole of South Wales?

The numbers of fatal and reportable non-fatal accidents at Bedwas Colliery in the first six months of this year were five and eight respectively, compared with 81 and 308 for the South Wales coalfield. In relation to the estimated number of manshifts worked, the approximate rates per 100,000 manshifts were 1.78 and 2.84 for Bedwas Colliery compared with 0.42 and 1.62 for South Wales.
