HC Deb 25 July 1934 vol 292 c1770
25. DAGGAR

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he has received official notification of the French Government's decision to reduce the quota of imported British coal; and whether such reduction, if it takes place, is regarded as in accordance with the terms of the trade agreement recently made between the two countries?

Mr. E. BROWN

The answer to both parts of the question is in the affirmative.

27. Mr. DAGGAR

asked the Secretary for Mines whether the arrangements for the exchange of coal from South Wales with pit-wood from France is outside the terms of the trade agreement recently made between Great Britain and France; and whether such an arrangement would be affected in the event of the French Government deciding to reduce the quota of British coal exported to France?

Mr. E. BROWN

No, Sir. The Pit-wood Agreement constitutes the Protocol to the Anglo-French Trade Agreement of 27th June, 1934, to which, under Article 7, it is subject. The reply to the second part of the question is also "No."
