HC Deb 18 April 1934 vol 288 c946
6. Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will state what is the latest information which His Majesty's Government has as to the payment of compensation to dispossessed landowners under the Yugoslavian Agrarian Reform Decree of February, 1919?

Sir J. SIMON

I have no recent information regarding this matter.

Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

Is my right hon. Friend aware that no payment has been made since 1929, and can he make inquiries as to why compensation has not been paid?

Sir J. SIMON

So far as I am aware no one who was a British subject at the relevant date is a claimant. Consequently, the Government are not in a position to make representations on behalf of claimants.

Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

Have we no obligations under the Treaty to see that it is carried out?
