HC Deb 30 November 1933 vol 283 cc1041-2
42. Mr. NEIL MACLEAN

asked the Minister of Health whether he has considered the resolutions addressed to him from the National Housing and Town Planning Conference at Malvern, which he attended on 25th November, calling for the re-introduction of a Government subsidy for local authorities to enable them to carry out the housing provisions of the 1933 Act, and asking for Government contributions towards the provision of suitable accommodation for people living in overcrowded conditions in houses which do not come under the 1930 Act; and when he will be prepared to give his considered views upon them?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

My right hon. Friend has not received copies of the resolutions to which the hon. Member refers. Judging from the description which he gives of the resolutions the suggestions they contain were present in my right hon. Friend's mind when he replied to criticisms of the Government's housing policy in this House on Monday last.

Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

Is it not a fact that since the subsidy was done away with the cost of house building has been considerably reduced?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I think the hon. Member is correct.
