HC Deb 30 November 1933 vol 283 c1042
36. Mr. T. SMITH (for Mr. T. WILLIAMS)

asked the Minister of Health which local authority in England or Wales erected the first municipal houses; how many such houses were erected in the first scheme and the date on which they were completed; and will he state the cost of the houses; the rate of interest charged for the loan; and whether such loan has been repaid?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

My right hon. Friend regrets that the information for which the hon. Member asks is not available. As he is no doubt aware, the first general power of providing dwellings for the working classes was conferred on local authorities in 1851.
