HC Deb 30 November 1933 vol 283 cc1053-4
56. Colonel CLIFTON BROWN

asked the Minister of Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to the proposal in Northumberland to institute a Buy English Meat week in the near future; and if he will consider promoting such a scheme on a national basis?

Mr. ELLIOT

I am aware of this proposal. A national "Buy English Meat Week" would involve considerable expenditure on publicity, for which I have no funds at my disposal. If, however, the National Farmers' Union or any other body would be prepared to raise a fund on similar lines to that proposed by the Northumberland County Branch, I should be pleased to assist in any way which is open to me, though the claims of other home-produced food products, such as fish, would also have to be borne in mind.
