HC Deb 31 May 1933 vol 278 c1862
11. Mr. EDWARD WILLIAMS

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the total number of Capttal ships at present in full commission in the Home and Mediterranean Fleets and the number of admirals employed in them, including chiefs of staff and similar appointments?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

In the Home Fleet, there are seven Capttal ships, with four admirals, namely, the commander-in-chief, his chief of staff (a rear-admiral), the rear-admiral Second Battle Squadron, and the rear-admiral commanding the Battle Cruiser Squadron. In the Mediterranean Fleet, there are five Capttal ships, with three admirals, namely, the commander-in-chief, his chief of staff (a rear-admiral), and the vice-admiral commanding the First Battle Squadron.

Mr. COCKS

Does that mean that there is one admiral for every two ships?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

No, Sir.
