HC Deb 23 May 1933 vol 278 cc926-7
32. Mr. PEAT

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has invited any applications from local authorities for the consideration of toll-bridge schemes or whether in each case he awaits the initiative of the local authority?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Lieut.-Colonel Headlam)

From time to time my hon. Friend has reminded highway authorities of their powers under the Road Traffic Act, 1930, to take over toll roads and bridges and of his willingness to consider, so far as funds will permit, applications which may be made for assistance towards expenditure thus incurred. He must rely upon the responsible highway authorities to bring individual schemes to his notice.
