§ 39. Colonel WEDGWOODasked the Home Secretary what action he proposes to take in view of the resolution he has received from the League of Nations Union urging that we should show practical sympathy with the victims of oppression in Germany by facilitating immigration into Palestine and their admission to this country under proper conditions?
§ Sir J. GILMOURI have not received the resolution referred to, but so far as concerns admission to this country, I can add nothing usefully to the reply which I gave on the 12th April to my hon. Friend the Member for Wolverhampton, 757 East (Mr. Mander). As regards Palestine, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies explained on 3rd April that the administration of the immigration law of Palestine is a matter within the discretion of the High Commissioner, and I would refer my hon. Friend to a full statement made on the matter on 13th April by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs?
§ Colonel WEDGWOODIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the position of the Jews in Germany is daily getting worse, and are we to understand that the British Government are going to do nothing to help the people who are being persecuted in Germany to escape from that country?
§ Mr. SPEAKERCaptain Cazalet.
§ Colonel WEDGWOODMay I have an answer to my question?
