HC Deb 22 May 1933 vol 278 cc753-4
30. Mr. GLOSSOP

asked the Postmaster-General if he will waive the regulation which requires that applications for work sent under the halfpenny post shall have printed or rubber-stamped letter headings, in view of the fact that it is not at present possible to purchase such printed paper from any Government Department?

Sir K. WOOD

The Inland Post Warrant prescribes that such documents as "Applications for Employment" intended for transmission at the reduced rate of postage must consist of a form bEarlng printed matter clearly indicating the purpose for which the form is to be used, and it was in the endeavour to interpret this regulation as liberally as possible in the interests of the unemployed that rubber-stamped letter headings were permitted.

Mr. GLOSSOP

Will the right hon. Gentleman's Department consider selling these applications in the same way as they sell stamps and letter-cards?

Sir K. WOOD

That is another matter.
