HC Deb 22 May 1933 vol 278 c754
31. Captain CAZALET

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he can give the House any information about the representations he has received as regards the future of Covent Garden Opera House and its preservation or demolition?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

I have received no representations such as my hon. and gallant Friend suggests, and I therefore regret that I am not able to give him any information in regard to them.

Captain CAZALET

Is my right hon. Friend aware that, unless some steps are taken in the next few weeks, Covent Garden Opera House is likely to be pulled down, and there will be no opportunity of having opera in this country for many years to come?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I do not think that concerns my Department.
