HC Deb 22 March 1933 vol 276 c312
38. Sir BASIL PETO

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been called to the shipment here from New York of 24,000 dozen pairs of fabric gloves of German origin which failed to find a market there and are being sold in London down to 8d. per pair retail; whether he can state the invoice price of these gloves on which customs duty was paid; and whether, as an ad valorem duty charged on invoice prices of such goods sold here below cost of production in Germany is ineffective, he will take steps to enable customs duties to be assessed in future on the fair market price in the country of origin?

Mr. HORE BELISHA

If my hon. Friend will let me have particulars of the date and port of importation and the name of the ship, I will have the matter investigated.
