HC Deb 22 March 1933 vol 276 c312
37. Mr. STOREY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he proposes to take steps to relieve the paint and varnish industry of the burden imposed upon it by the hydrocarbon oil duty upon white spirit and turpentine, two of its raw materials?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

I am afraid that my right hon. Friend is unable to contemplate steps of the kind suggested.

Mr. STOREY

Is my hon. Friend aware that the Chancellor of the Exchequer advocated the repeal of this duty in 1931?
