HC Deb 22 March 1933 vol 276 cc314-5
7. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether arrangements are being made to reduce the debt expenditure of any British Colony through loan conversion operations during the present year?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the. COLONIES (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister)

Several minor operations either of conversion or of redemption have been arranged in the case of certain West Indian Colonies. The matter will continue to engage my attention, but my hon. Friend no doubt realises that opportunities for making offers of conversion on terms which are likely to be accepted are strictly limit ed. The general position is as explained in the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member for the Isle of Wight (Captain. P. Macdonald) on the 16th of November last, of which I am sending my hon. Friend a copy.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Is my right hon. Friend satisfied with the Trinidad conversion?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

Yes, Sir; very satisfied.
