HC Deb 16 February 1933 vol 274 cc1151-2
9. Mr. KIRKWOOD

asked the Minister of Labour how many unemployed men were during the last 12 months taken from the Employment Exchange in order to operate the totalisators?

12. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Labour how many persons have been found employment in connection with totalisators at dog-racing tracks through the medium of Employment Exchanges; and how many such persons are insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts?

Sir H. BETTERTON

The number of persons placed in employment by the Ex- changes in connection with the operation of totalisators during the last 12 months is approximately 1,400. Separate figures in respect of dog-racing tracks are not available, nor can I say how many of the jobs were insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts.

Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

Did any of these men who got jobs come from Dumbarton?
