§ 3. Mr. T. WILLIAMSasked the Minister of Labour if he can state when the Bill to deal with unemployment insurance is to be introduced; and whether it is proposed to have a carryover Bill in the meantime?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONAs regards the first part of the question, I would refer 241 the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. and gallant Member for the Isle of Wight (Captain P. Macdonald) on 25th April. As the hon. Member knows, the existing provision expires on 30th June and any necessary legislation with regard to this date will be introduced in due time.
§ Mr. WILLIAMSDo I understand then that we are to have a carry-over Bill?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONThe hon. Member must not imply more than I said. I said that there must be legislation before the 30th June when the existing provisions expire.
§ Mr. THORNEIs it the intention of the Government to print the new Bill before the end of the Session for consideration next Session?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONI think that there is another Question on that point. It has already been stated that legislation will be introduced this Session.
