HC Deb 12 May 1932 vol 265 c2055
11. Mr. PRICE

asked the Minister of Labour the amount of the fee paid to the chairman of a court of referees for each sitting; whether a chairman who presides over two courts in one day is entitled to draw a fee in respect of each; what is the total amount of fees paid to chairmen of courts of referees in Sheffield for the three months of this year; and the total amount paid to chairmen throughout the country during the same period?

Sir H. BETTERTON

The fee paid to the chairman of a court of referees for each sitting is £2 7s. The normal sitting is approximately three hours and a chairman who presides at two sittings in one day is entitled to a fee in respect of each. The total amount of fees paid during January, February and March, 1932, to chairmen of courts of referees was approximately £360 in the Sheffield area including Attercliffe and about £24,000 for the whole of Great Britain.
