HC Deb 12 May 1932 vol 265 cc2055-6
12. Mr. GEORGE HALL

asked the Minister of Labour how many insured persons were employed in Great Britain on the 1st January, 1931, and the 1st of each subsequent month to the latest date?

Sir H. BETTERTON

As the reply includes a Table of figures, I will, if I may, circulate a statement in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the statement:

Estimates of the number of insured persons in employment are available in respect of one date only towards the end of each month.

The following Table gives the figures on this basis for each month since December, 1930. The estimates for July, 1931, and subsequent months are provisional.

The figures are obtained by deducting from the estimated total numbers insured the numbers recorded as unemployed, and those directly involved in trade disputes, together with 3½ per cent. of the numbers insured, to allow for persons absent from work through sickness and other forms of unrecorded non-employment other than holidays.
