HC Deb 10 May 1932 vol 265 cc1701-2
16. Mr. TINKER

asked the Secretary for Mines whether the economy proposals of the Government with regard to the salaries of public servants were applied to the Coal Mines Re-organisation Commission?

Mr. ISAAC FOOT

Immediately the economy proposals of the Government with regard to salaries of public servants were announced, the Chairman and Commissioners asked that abatements might be made in their salary and fees respectively on the scale appropriate to their remuneration, i.e. 20 per cent. in the case of the Chairman and 10 per cent. in the case of the Commissioners. These offers were gratefully accepted and the reductions took effect from the 1st October. The staff of the Commission were dealt with in the same way as the staff of my own Department.
