HC Deb 10 May 1932 vol 265 cc1711-2
33. Mr. A. ROBERTS

asked the President of the Board of Trade the names of any Canadian life insurance companies transacting business in this country and the liabilities of each in regard to British policy-holders, with the funds in this country in each case available to meet such liabilities?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The Canadian assurance companies transacting life assurance business in this country are:

  • Canada Life Assurance Company.
  • Confederation Life Association.
  • Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company.
  • Independent Order of Foresters.
  • Manufacturers Life Insurance Company of Canada.
  • Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada.
I have no information as regards the latter part of the question as the returns which are made by a company under the Assurance Companies Act, 1909, are not required to show separately the liability of the company to its policy-holders in this country or the amount of funds held in this country. The Act doss not require the earmarking of assets to meet such liability.
