HC Deb 03 May 1932 vol 265 c946
13. Mr. REMER (for

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that attempts are being made to establish the manufacture of hat galloons in this country; if he is watching the progress of these attempts; and whether he will assist the project?

Mr. COLVILLE

I have been asked to reply. The attention of my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary has been drawn to a number of proposals to set up new undertakings to manufacture ribbons of various kinds in this country, and he is aware that some of these undertakings propose to manufacture hat galloons. The Government welcome any proposals which will lead to the manufacture in this country of goods or qualities of goods where these have not previously been manufactured here.

Mr. REMER

Has the hon. Gentleman's attention been called to the fact that a factory was being put up in the borough of Stockport, but that the project has been cancelled owing to the withdrawal of the Import Duties on silk?
