HC Deb 03 May 1932 vol 265 cc945-6
28. Mr. CHORLTON

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department if he is aware that the announced increase in trade to Danubian countries is from new traders who by reason of frozen remittances have small prospect of payment for goods supplied; and if he will give a list of the countries in which such conditions obtain for the information of British traders?

Mr. COLVILLE

I have no information that would confirm the suggestion made by my hon. Friend in the first part of the question that recent trade with the Danubian countries has been carried on by new traders who are unaware of the risks involved. Detailed particulars regarding exchange restrictions imposed in these and other countries have been widely disseminated by the Department of Overseas Trade. In addition, the Department has from time to time issued to traders, trade associations and the Press, a list of the countries affected by exchange restrictions. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the most recent list dated 11th April of which over 5,000 copies have been circulated.
