HC Deb 03 May 1932 vol 265 cc946-7
14. Sir ARTHUR MICHAEL SAMUEL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has considered the official communication from the Society of Incorporated Accountants stating that certain provisions of the Companies Act, 1929, do not protect the investing public; and whether he will agree to their request that a Departmental Committee should be appointed to consider the amending legislation recommended?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The recommendations of the Society of Incorporated Accountants and Auditors have been examined and carefully noted for review in connection with any subsequent legislation.

Sir A. M. SAMUEL

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that there is more than ample material for examination; that public opinion demands an amendment of the 1929 Act; what reason is there, therefore, for further delay in setting up a Departmental Committee?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The material is still coining in and is being carefully collated.
