HC Deb 15 June 1932 vol 267 cc381-2
11. Mr. CHORLTON

(for Commander MARSDEN) asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether experiments are being made as to the suitability of colloidal fuel for use in His Majesty's ships; and if he can estimate what amount of coal to produce the pulverised fuel will be necessary in the event of the adoption of colloidal fuel for the Fleet?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

Experiments as to the suitability of colloidal fuel for use in His Majesty's ships have been carried out and the results have not been sufficiently promising to warrant their continuation, although the matter has not been lost sight of. I am afraid that I am not in a position to furnish an estimate such as is asked for in the second part of the hon. and gallant Member's question.

Mr. MARTIN

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether the fuel which was tested by the Navy was the same colloidal fuel as is now being tested by the Cunard Company?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

I am only replying to the question whether experiments are being made.

Mr. MARTIN

Is it not in order to ask if it is the same colloidal fuel?
