HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 cc2-3
2. Sir REGINALD CRADDOCK

asked the Secretary of State for India how many executive engineers, British and Indian, respectively, of the irrigation board of the public works department in the Central Provinces have been dismissed for reasons of economy, and on what terms?

Mr. BUTLER

Three European executive engineers of the Irrigation Branch of the Public Works Department in the Central Provinces have been compulsorily retired as a measure of retrenchment. The terms granted to them were those admissible under the Superior Civil Services (Compulsory Retirement) Rules, a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House.

Sir R. CRADDOCK

Can my hon. Friend say whether the rules were made specially for the purpose of retiring public servants who have a long career in front of them?

Mr. BUTLER

If my hon. Friend wishes to ask a question about the rules, I shall be very grateful if he will put it on the Paper.
