HC Deb 25 April 1932 vol 265 cc18-9
31. Sir ROBERT HORNE

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he can give any particulars regarding the Scottish trade mission ship which is shortly proceeding to Canada, and the extent to which it has been accorded the support of His Majesty's Government?

Mr. COLVILLE

The steamship "Letitia," of the Anchor-Donaldson Line, will leave Glasgow for Montreal on the 5th May, carrying the exhibits of approximately 90 Scottish firms. In most cases a director or responsible official will accompany each firm's exhibit. The exhibition will be held on board at Montreal, from the 16th to the 20th May inclusive. The Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce has kindly consented to open the exhibition. The proposed exhibition has the support of the civic authorities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and of the leading Scottish Chambers of Commerce. It has also the support of the Department of Overseas Trade, which has arranged that His Majesty's Trade Commissioner in Toronto shall accompany the ship and give his expert assistance to exhibitors. Both His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and my right hon. Friend, the Prime Minister, have contributed messages of good will.
