HC Deb 21 April 1932 vol 264 cc1630-1
34. Mr. R. T. EVANS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will arrange for a public inquiry into the facts relating to salmon fishing on the Teify river before endorsing the proposal of the fishery board to prohibit the use of nets on one of its stretches; and whether the inquiry will be extended to include within its scope the recent restriction of licences to coracle-men on the Towy river?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have given directions for a public local inquiry to be held into the application of the Teify Fishery Board for confirmation of a by-law prohibiting netting in certain parts of the fishery district. As regards the second part of the question, the scope of the inquiry cannot be extended so as to include the limitation of coracle net licences in another fishery district which has already been the subject of a local inquiry held on 29th July last, prior to the confirmation of an Order under Section 19 of the River Towy Fisheries Provisional Order, 1922.
