HC Deb 28 September 1931 vol 257 c29
38. Mr. W. B. TAYLOR

asked the Minister of Health the number of villages in Great Britain where the chief industry is the production of foodstuffs, and the number of the population resident in those areas?

Mr. SIMON

So far as England and Wales are concerned, at any rate, no Census statistics as to the local distribution of industries will be available for a very considerable period.

Mr. TAYLOR

Has the hon. Member any intention of giving any of the statistics asked for in the question?

Mr. SIMON

I am told that figures of that kind will be available for recognised areas, parishes, and rural districts, and they will be available in about two years' time.

Mr. TAYLOR

Is it not the case that everything regarding agriculture is about two years late?
