HC Deb 26 November 1931 vol 260 c499
55. Major MILNER

asked the President of the Board of Education what recommendations to arrest expenditure have been sent to the local education authorities; and the number of secondary and primary schools the erection of which has been postponed as a result of recommendations from the Board of Education?

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

My right hon. Friend is sending the hon. and gallant Member a copy of Circular 1413, which indicates the policy of the Board in regard to reductions in educational expenditure. Local education authorities have been asked to submit, in the light of this circular, estimates of their proposed expenditure up to 31st March, 1933, and also statements of the new developments with which they expect to desire to proceed during that period; but until these have been received and considered by the board my right hon. Friend is unable to say what proposals for new schools are likely to be proceeded with.
