§ 99. Sir W. BRASSasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the necessary increase in the customs staff to deal with the anti-dumping duties recently imposed, he will consider utilising the services of some of the Land Values Tax Valuation officials engaged to deal with Part III of the Budget of 1931 for this purpose?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINAs regards the position of officials at present engaged on land valuation under Part III of the Finance Act, 1931, I would refer to my answer of the 19th November to the 518 hon. and gallant Member for Chelmsford (Lieut.-Colonel Sir Vivian Henderson). I anticipate, however, that any increased requirement by the Board of Customs and Excise can be met by transfer of staff from other Departments whose work has been reduced.
§ 115. Mr. LEONARDasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he will state whether any of the commodities included in the Schedule to the Abnormal Importations (Customs Duties) (No. 1) Order are already subject to duties of any description; and, if so, what are the total duties now payable on those commodities?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINSome of the commodities included in the Schedule to which the hon. Member refers may contain material already subject to other duties, but it is impossible to compile a list of articles of this kind, or to make any statement as to total duties which, in any particular case, must depend on the extent to which material subject to the older duties enters into the composition of the article.
