HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 c1348
30. Mr. EDE

asked the President of the Board of Education what steps the Board takes to ensure that wherever the land is available new elementary schools shall be equipped with playing fields for the playing of organised games on grass pitches?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

Local education authorities are well aware that the Board regard it as of the greatest importance that playing fields should be provided for new elementary schools, particularly those for older children. A pamphlet on the matter was prepared rather over a year ago with the help of the National Playing Fields Association, and specially circulated to each local education authority. In frequent cases where the Board has thought that the local education authority might be doing more, their attention has been called to the subject.
