HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 cc1348-9
31. Mr. FREEMAN

asked the President of the Board of Education how many schools have now organised a voluntary milk club; how many scholars do they include; and the proportion to the total number of schools and scholars?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

I regret that no information is available as to the number of schools which have organised milk clubs; but I understand that the National Milk Publicity Council's scheme extends to upwards of 600,000 school children, or approximately 13 per cent. of the school population.

Mr. FREEMAN

In view of the importance of this matter, would my right hon. Friend get this information as to the number of schools having these clubs?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

These clubs are organised by the National Milk Publicity Council, and they are unable to get the information. They act through the milk distributors, and not directly through the schools.
