§ 42. Mr. MANDERasked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department what recommendations have been made by the Advisory Committee concerning the propaganda value of films; and what action it is proposed to take?
§ Mr. GILLETT (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)The question was considered by a small informal Departmental Committee, who fully recognised the importance of the film as a form of trade propaganda. As, however, I found that both the Empire Marketing Board and the Travel Association were experimenting in this line, I thought it was unnecessary for the time being for the Department of Overseas Trade to move in the matter.
§ Mr. MANDERWhat steps are being taken for the promotion of British films generally in this connection?
§ Mr. GILLETTI have stated in my answer that the matter is being considered by these two organisations. I will communicate more fully with the hon. Member later.
