HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 c7
8. Sir F. HALL

asked the Secretary of State for India whether, in view of Mr. Gandhi's attitude towards Christian missionary enterprise in India, he will state what is the policy of His Majesty's Government on this matter?

Mr. BENN

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the answer on this subject which I gave on 27th April.

Sir F. HALL

Has the right hon. Gentleman seen further reports which have emanated from India with regard to the attitude that would be adopted by Mr. Gandhi in the event of his obtaining what he desires? May I press the right hon. Gentleman? Does he recognise the importance of the matter, or is it a question of leaving everything to take its own course?

Mr. BENN

I did not intend any discourtesy. I have seen the Press reports. I think there is a good deal of confusion of thought.
