HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 cc40-1
84. Captain W. G. HALL

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will give an assurance that the allotment and marriage allowance which are being paid for four weeks to the widows of the ratings lost in His Majesty's submarine "Poseidon" are at the same rates drawn at the time of the disaster and not the minimum?

Mr. AMMON

The payment of marriage allowance for the four weeks is at the full rate but, in accordance with regulations common to the three Services, the allotment is reduced to the minimum qualifying for the award of marriage allowance. This allotment is paid by the State and is not charged against the man's account and, taken in conjunction with marriage allowance, is in effect, a provisional award of pension for the widow and children.
