HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 c41
86. Mr. McSHANE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will have a special medical report prepared on the incidence and area of under-nutrition in Mauritius, and especially upon the Indian population, particularly since the hurricane of March last?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Dr. Drummond Shiels)

Yes; I will ask the Governor to obtain a report on the subject from the Director of the Medical and Health Department of the Colony. I understand that when this question of the existence of under-nutrition was first brought to notice an investigation was ordered by the Acting oGvernor. The report is not yet to hand but I am taking steps to secure it.

Mr. McSHANE

Can the Under-Secretary say when he expects to have this report?

Dr. SHIELS

It may be in a month's time.
