HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 c40
83. Mr. DAY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty for what reasons all officers in the service of His Majesty's Navy are required to have their photographs taken and submitted to the Admiralty on pro motion?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Mr. Ammon)

The photographs are required to make the records of officers which are kept at the Admiralty more complete and to assist the staffs in dealing with officers, many of whom call at the Admiralty on personal matters.

Mr. DAY

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say whether all officers on promotion have to supply these photographs?

Mr. AMMON

Yes, Sir.

Commander SOUTHBY

Can the hon. Member say how long this regulation has been in force?

Mr. AMMON

I am afraid I cannot give the exact date, but it is a year or two.
