HC Deb 20 July 1931 vol 255 cc1057-8
63. Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he is aware that the letters patent establishing the office of Governor-General in the Commonwealth of Australia provide that the Commission appointing any individual to that office must bear the Royal Sign Manual and the Royal Signet; and by whom the Royal Sign Manual and the Royal Signet were affixed to the Commission appointing Sir Isaac Isaacs to the Governor-Generalship of the Australian Commonwealth?

The SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. J. H. Thomas)

The answer to the first part of the right hon. Member's question is in the affirmative. The Commission was signed by the King and sealed with the Signet which is in my custody.
