Mr. CAMPBELLasked the Secretary of State for India how many times a military force or detachment was used to assist the police in India during the year 1930; is he aware that the military consider this an unwelcome duty; and will he tell the House what steps he intends taking to strengthen the police force?
§ Mr. BENNTroops were employed on 10 occasions to assist the police during 1930. There has throughout been the closest co-operation between the civil and military authorities and assistance has been willingly given by the military forces. As regards the third part, additions to the police forces have already been made in nearly all provinces.
