HC Deb 10 December 1931 vol 260 cc2025-6

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the number of persons who have been disallowed unemployment benefits since 30th August, 1931, up to the latest date for which the information is available, giving separate figures for Lancashire?

As the reply contains a number of figures I will, if I may, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the reply:

The latest period for which figures are available is the month ended 9th November. During the period 11th August, 1931, to 9th November, 1931, 219,699 claims to benefit were disallowed by Courts of Referees in Great Britain. In addition 2,516 claims were disallowed by insurance officers under the trade dispute disqualification. Separate figures for particular counties are not normally compiled. During the period 11th August to 9th November, 40,497 claims were disallowed by Courts of Referees in the North Western Division, which includes Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumberland and Westmorland. Statistics for the area relating to claims disallowed under the trade dispute disqualification are not available.
