HC Deb 09 December 1931 vol 260 cc1845-6
17. Rear-Admiral SUETER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether his attention has been drawn to the desirability of developing a second aerodrome at Safi, Malta; if he is aware that steps have already been made to divert the roads for this purpose; and whether provision will be made in the 1932–33 Air Estimates for completing this aerodrome without interruption?

Sir P. SASSOON

My Noble Friend is fully alive to the desirability of providing a second aerodrome in Malta and proposals for the selection and acquisition of a site have been for some time under consideration; it has not been possible, however, on financial grounds to proceed further with these proposals. I am not in a position to anticipate future Air Estimates, but in view of the need for stringent economy, I fear that there is little prospect of funds being available for the provision of a second aerodrome at Malta during the coming financial year.
