HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 cc191-2
37. Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of his determination, as announced, that local authorities shall use the Wheatley Act of 1924 for housing purposes, he proposes to take any action which may detract from the independence of such local authorities in deciding on the needs of their respective districts; and, if so, of what nature?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I do not know to what specific announcement the hon. Member refers. I may, however, say that I should of course propose, as my predecessors have done, to bring pressure to bear upon local authorities who are shown not to be endeavouring to meet the housing needs of their areas.
