HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 c192
38. Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

asked the Minister of Health whether the Ministry adopts the view that houses built out of public funds should be let at economic rents, or whether the principle is accepted that the rents charged for subsidy houses should be regulated solely by the ability of applicants to pay them?

Mr. GREENWOOD

Thu policy of subsidising houses embodied in the housing legislation promoted by all Governments alike since 1919 is based on the view that economic rents for working class houses have not been and are not attainable.
