HC Deb 03 November 1930 vol 244 cc468-9
60. Brigadier - General CLIFTON

BROWN asked the Minister of Agriculture whether serum treatment has been applied to any animals which have been in contact with recent cases of foot-and-mouth disease, as suggested in the Ministry's letter of 22nd September, 1930; and what has been the result?

Dr. ADDISON

One outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has occurred in connection with which anti-foot-and-mouth serum has been used. The diseased animals and those in immediate contact on the premises on which the outbreak occurred were slaughtered in accordance with the policy of eradication. Thirty cattle and three pigs on neighbouring premises which had been exposed to infection received serum treatment. None of the animals so treated developed foot-and-mouth disease.

Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider devising a better term than "anti-foot-and-mouth serum"?
