asked the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India have now completed the purchase of the Southern Punjab Railway; the amount, in sterling, to be paid by the Government of India for this purchase; whether the first payment has been made; and the number of yearly payments that are to be made?

Mr. BENN

The purchase of the Southern Punjab Railway has been completed for a sum of £5,256,631 8s. Payment has been made.

Mr. DAY

Is it now the policy of the Government of India to nationalise all the railways?

Mr. BENIN

That is a separate point.
