HC Deb 26 May 1930 vol 239 c781
5. Mr. LAMBERT

asked the Secretary of State for India if, in response to the communication of the American clergymen, he will cause to be prepared for circulation a statement showing the progress made in order and prosperity by the Indian people under British rule?

Mr. BENN

No, Sir. The Prime Minister dealt with this matter last Monday.

Mr. LAMBERT

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that if the Americans had made the success which we have made in India, they would blazon it forth to all the world?

Mr. BENN

Yes, but the right hon. Gentleman will be aware that there are many sources from which such information could be collected. I shall have something to say about it myself in the course of the Debate this afternoon.

Mr. THURTLE

Does my right hon. Friend realise that there are some who value freedom more highly than prosperity?
