asked the Secretary of State for India whether any flogging has been inflicted during the recent disturbances in India; if so, how many persons have been flogged; and under what authority this punishment has been given?

Mr. BENN

I know of no case save that of four juveniles at Sholapur.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is my right hon. Friend taking any steps to deal with the false rumours that are being spread, and are doing a great deal of harm?

Mr. BENN

I have given to the House of Commons, at every opportunity, the fullest information in my possession, and that is the best that I can do.
