§ 36. Sir K. WOODasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can make any further statement in reference to the present position of the West Indian sugar industry; and whether the Government have any further proposals to render assistance to the industry?
§ Dr. SHIELSI can only refer the right hon. Member to the statement made by my Noble Friend in another place on the 7th May, to which I am not in a position to add.
§ Sir K. WOODCannot the hon. Gentleman reply to the last part of the question? Does not the Noble Lord authorise him to state whether the Government have any further proposals for rendering assistance?
§ Dr. SHIELSAs far as I am aware, no other proposals are contemplated, but the Government, of course, are keeping in close touch with the situation.
§ Sir K. WOODDoes the last part of the hon. Gentleman's reply mean anything, or nothing?
§ Dr. SHIELSI do not think it is necessary for me to comment on that question.
