HC Deb 14 May 1930 vol 238 c1868
41. Sir R. HAMILTON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Report has been received from the Governor of Fiji regarding the conference convened by him on the franchise question; and what the present position is as to the vacancies in the Legislature created by the resignation of the Indian members?

Dr. SHIELS

The Report of the proceedings of the conference has been received. According to the latest information available, the Governor, having issued writs for the election of Indian members to the seats on the Legislative Council vacated by resignation, and no candidates having come forward, is awaiting an indication that candidates will be forthcoming before issuing further writs.
